Dance Event in the Dallas Arts District

Performing & Visual Arts • 2501 Flora St. • Dallas 75201

Planet Moves Indoors
Dance lovers rejoice! Each new year brings new opportunity, and the Dance Council of North Texas (DCNT) is thrilled to bring Dance for the Planet back to the downtown Dallas Arts District. DCNT is excited to partner with BTWHSPVA and Dallas Independent School District to take Planet to the next level of visibility as an indoor dance festival. You will no longer have to brave the unpredictable Texas weather to partake in the best local dance festival. No more rain, wind or cold to worry about – just two days of great dance indoors. And it’s all free!

A New Planet

Dance for the Planet takes place in the state-of-the-art facilities at BTWHSPVA with performances by 80 dance groups  in the Montgomery Arts Theater,  24 master classes taught by invited guest artists teaching all styles for all abilities, and 48 Pilates one- on-one workout sessions. You can choose to perform, watch dance or take up to 2 free classes per day in a wide range of styles from Pilates, flamenco, hip hop, contemporary, salsa, yoga and more.

Why Do We Do Planet?

Dance for the Planet celebrates the talented and diverse dance community in North Texas. As Margaret Putnam noted in her 2008 Dallas Morning News review, this festival is “an alphabet soup of dance styles … from African to tap, and in between ballet, belly dance, Bharatha Naatyam, Charleston, folklorico, hip-hop, Lindy, modern and swing.” We come out to spread the word of dance, build greater interest, enthusiasm, and support for this dynamic art form.
Food, Fun & Family
Dance for the Planet is your one-stop shop to strut the stuff you do best, or to break out of your comfort zone and experience a new way to move. Bring the entire family! Indulge in performances, get a commemorative T-shirt, and enjoy classes while treating your children to a day filled with all kinds of dance activities. A delectable array of reasonably priced food and drinks will be available in the cafeteria. Don’t miss the best Dance for the Planet yet. Even if it rains, we’ll be warm and dry inside! Invite some friends and bring your whole family!
